Georgia had to be happy with their newest commitment’s performance Friday night.

Woodward Academy running back Elijah Holyfield announced his commitment to Mark Richt’s Bulldogs Friday morning at the high school. Later that night, he showed exactly why he is one of the nation’s top recruits.

Holyfield scored rushed for 187 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns, two of which came in overtime of Woodward Academy’s 36-29 win over St. Pius.

Holyfield, the son of boxing great Evander Holyfield, sat out the season opener with an injured big toe, but made the most of first game against last year’s Class AAAA state runner-up in St. Pius. Holyfield scored on runs of 65, 38, 8 and 1 yards to help the third-ranked War Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

St. Pius fell to 0-2, the Golden Lions' second straight 0-2 start. They won 12 in a row after losing to Woodward Academy in Week 2 last season.
