Dalton’s remarkable streak of 80 consecutive matches without a loss came to an end Friday night in dramatic fashion.

Riverwood knocked off the Catamounts 4-3 on penalty kicks in a semifinal of the Region 7-AAAAA tournament. It was the first loss by Dalton since May 11, 2012.

The Catamounts had been ranked No. 1 in the nation by multiple polls. They fell to No. 3 in the Eurosport rankings, after the defeat. (McIntosh is now No. 1 in AAAAA).

Riverwood’s Eric Cruz scored both goals for the Raiders, one in regulation and another in overtime. Cruz, Jay Liborio and Manuel Casanova converted their penalty-kick opportunities to seal the win.

Dalton, which has won three straight state championships, has clinched a state tournament berth.
