Columbia basketball coach McCrary gets 600th win

Columbia boys basketball coach Phil McCrary got career win No. 600 on Wednesday in a 56-47 victory over Arabia Mountain.

McCrary’s teams are 600-212 in 27 seasons. They’ve won five state titles and reached 10 state finals.

McCrary began at Columbia in 1988 and retired after the 2012 season and took an administrative job in the DeKalb County athletics office before returning to courtside in 2016-17.

With the most basketball wins in DeKalb County history, McCrary was inducted into the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

Columbia (14-9) will play Lithonia on Friday night in the semifinals of the Region 5-AAAAA tournament at Columbia.
