Loganville Christian Academy (LCA) is one of three schools (Deerfield-Windsor and Heritage-Newnan) making the leap from the Georgia Independent Schools Association (GISA) to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) this season.
The Lions went 5-7 last season and have won one region championship (2015) since starting their football program in 2008. They will be led this season by Adam Miller, an assistant at Class AAAAAAA Shiloh last season. Previously, he was head coach at his alma mater in Florida, Coral Springs Charter, from 2012-15 and had a 31-11 record. He won the Southeastern Football Conference championship in 2015, earning coach of the year honors. He also coached at the college level as quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator for Albany State (2017, 2018) and as an offensive graduate assistant at Florida International (2016).
LCA is joining Region 8, which has been dominated by Athens Academy the last three seasons with three titles while compiling a record of 37-3 with two appearances in the private final in 2017 and 2018.
Miller spoke about his new school and its move into the GHSA:
- What led to your school's decision to leave the GISA and join the GHSA?
“I was not on staff when the decision was made to move to the GHSA. This decision was all based on what was best for the Students. As a member of GISA many region games were multiple hours away, which made it difficult for those who had competitions during the week. I know football wise our furthest game is like 50 minutes from campus this season. So the overall decision was based on what is the best thing for all of our students at LCA.”
- What do you think will be the biggest benefit to joining the GHSA?
“The greatest benefit will be, having the opportunity to compete against the best of the best. Plus, being about out the great tradition of the GHSA is a huge privilege.”
- How involved was your school community (parents, alumni, supporters, etc.) in the decision?
“Not really sure about this one I was not there for the decision making process.”
- Coming from a Class AAAAAAA school, how much do you know about the other teams in Class A?
“As a coach I have always tried to keep a eye on the entire state and all classifications, so I had some familiarity with Class A. I have heard of the programs like ELCA, Athens Academy, and Prince, not the ins and outs of the program but knew who they are and the success they have had.”
- For those who are not familiar with your program, what should they expect to see from the Lions?
“We will be a program based on Discipline, Effort, and Trust rooted in our faith and working to be an example of Christ in all we do.”
