Let’s take a look at some of the top Class AA boys and girls games taking place this weekend.

We’ll start on the boys’ side, where A-Public’s No. 6 Wilkinson County Warriors (12-6) travel to play against the No. 2 Swainsboro Tigers (18-2) on Saturday. The game is a rematch from Dec. 20, when Swainsboro won 72-57. That loss for the Warriors started a 1-3 skid that ended 2019, but they’ve opened the new year with six straight wins. The Tigers have lost just once since beating the Warriors, going 10-1 during that stretch, with their lone loss coming to No. 4 Jeff Davis.

In Region 4 action, the No. 3 Glenn Hills Spartans (15-6, 11-1) will seek redemption on the road against the Westside-Macon Patriots (10-7, 7-4) on Friday. On Dec. 10, the Patriots beat the Spartans 68-63, with Patriots freshman Kahlon Hudson scoring a team-high 21 points, and Felix Booker scoring 18. The Spartans’ Emmanuel Jones led all scorers with 22 points. Hudson leads the Warriors with averages of 15 points and 3.4 rebounds. Jones leads the Spartans with 17.8 points a game, followed by John Whitehead III (16.7).

On the girls’ side, the No. 1 Laney Lady Wildcats (16-2) travel to play against the AAAA’s Burke County Lady Bears (10-3) on Saturday. The first time these two met on Dec. 21 at Laney, the Lady Wildcats edged Burke County 58-54. Whitney Anderson’s game-high 18 points led the Lady Wildcats, while Breanna Bynes and Tyasia Freeman each scored 14 for the Lady Bears. Rocquana Drayton is Laney’s leading scorer, averaging 13.9 points, followed by Anderson (11.6). Freeman leads Burk County with averages of 18.6 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 1.9 blocks.

Also on Saturday, AAAA’s Baldwin Lady Bears (14-6) travel to play against the No. 6 Washington County Lady Golden Hawks (14-2). The first time these teams met, on Nov. 30, the Lady Bears won 55-47 at home. However, they’d already played six games. The Lady Golden Hawks, on the other hand, were making their season debut. With the rust shaken off and just one other loss since then, the Lady Golden Hawks should be poised to mount a better effort this time around in front of the home crowd. Miracle Parker is averaging a team-high 19.8 points for the Lady Golden Hawks, while the Lady Bears are led by sophomore Tamia Smith’s 12.6 points.
