Here are a few of the top games of the weekend, going into the final week of the regular season:
PRIVATE BOYS
No. 6 Walker at No. 2 St. Francis, Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Walker came within a bucket of upsetting the Knights when they met Jan. 11, at Walker. The game was tied 24-24 at the half, but St. Francis won the third and fourth quarters by one point each to pull out a 57-55 win. A win in the rematch for the Wolverines would give them a ton of momentum heading into one of the state's most competitive region tournaments - Region 6. Walker is led by the junior duo of G Chandler Baker and F Burke Chebuhar. St. Francis counters with four players averaging double figures in points, led by junior G Dwon Odum (23 points per game).
PUBLIC BOYS
No. 4 Terrell County at Chattahoochee County, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.: "Chatt Co" is one of the best unranked teams in the state. The Panthers sit at No. 12 in the public school power ratings. Terrell County's only losses this season were to Region 1 foe, top-ranked and undefeated Calhoun County, and to No. 9 Wilcox County. Terrell County won the first meeting with Chattahoochee County, 66-53, back on December 4. Chatt Co is led by juniors G De'Andre Masten and Brandon Thomas. Terrell County is led by guards senior Shontavion Bowers and junior Eshaun Harvey.
PRIVATE GIRLS
No. 9 Paideia at No. 2 Holy Innocents, Friday, 6 p.m.: After knocking off No. 1 and previously unbeaten Wesleyan -- 68-63, Jan. 18 -- Holy Innocents will look to close out the regular season undefeated against Class A foes. The Bears have lost seven games, all to team from higher classifications. UNC-Asheville signee Kai Carter, a senior, and 1,000-point scorer Christina Walker, a junior, will try to help the Pythons pull the upset in the season finale for both teams.
PUBLIC GIRLS
No. 6 Wheeler County at No. 4 Telfair County, Saturday, 4:30 p.m.: This could late season non-region game could be a state final contest. Both teams are undefeated in their respective regions – Wheeler County in Region 3 and Telfair County in Region 2. Wheeler County is led by junior guards G Keonya Mincey and Sameria Bryant. Telfair County is paced by senior guards India Wells and Brandy Mackey.
