MACON -- The Lassiter girls had never won a state championship. They'd never even reached the championship game. Yet, from the first day of preseason practice, the Trojans had the focus of a champion, coach Robbie Galvin said.

It paid off on a sunny Friday afternoon at Mercer University.

Lassiter got goals from Kelsey Hahn and Mackenzie Brennan, and the Trojans avenged their only of the season with a 2-1 win over West Forsyth in the Class AAAAAA state championship.

It's the first state title for the Trojans.

"This group from the very first day was laser-focused," Galvin said. "They had one thing on their minds, and that wasn't just winning the region; it wasn't just having another great winning season -- they wanted state. We put in the work and it paid off for us tonight."

West Forsyth beat Lassiter 2-1 in late March, handing the Trojans' their only loss in a tight game. Friday's championship rematch was equally as tight.

West Forsyth's Grace Anne Green gave the Wolverines an early lead, striking from 27 yards out just two minutes into the game.

Lassiter answered right back, with Hahn scoring to even the score five minutes into the game.

Three minutes later, Hahn answered to even the score. Brennan recorded the go-ahead goal on a header off a corner kick from Kalli Vogel.

"I think both teams were a little giddy to start," Galvin said. "But once we settled in, we did things like we wanted to and got the win."
