They’re on different sides of Region 4-AAA, but the league will get a better idea of its pecking order after tonight’s game between No. 4 Cedar Grove and No. 8 Blessed Trinity in Ellenwood.
Cedar Grove (11-2) leads Division A with a 5-0 record, one game ahead of No. 10 South Atlanta. The Saints are led by forward Jacara Cross, guard Chris Fredrick, guard Benjy Parrish and guard Kenneth Lewis.
Blessed Trinity (14-2) leads Division B with a 5-0 record, one game ahead of Westminster. Last week the Titans beat Westminster 50-35; the rivals will play again on Feb. 3. The Titans are led by point guard Cameron Johnson, guard Kyle Swade and forward Kieshawn Binion and Cody Pelitera.
This is a tough stretch for Blessed Trinity, which has gams later this week at North Clayton and against Catholic school rival St. Pius.
There are very few games of consequence on Tuesday night. Seems like all the big games are scheduled for Friday night this week. Here are a couple of other games that might be worth a peek.
Central Macon (10-5) travels to Westside Macon (6-8) in a Region 2-AAA game that could define the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. Both teams trail region leaders Rutland and Peach County. Central has won three straight games and Westside has won its last two games. Central won the first meeting 70-65 on Dec. 5, despite Westside’s Tyler Wheeler getting 31 points and 16 rebounds. Central Rakwon Iverson scored 27 in the first meeting. Antarius McCoy leads Central with 15.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, while Wheeler averages 15.5 points and 9.9 rebounds.
East Hall (12-3) travels to Lavonia for a game with Franklin County that will have an impact on Region 7-AAA. The Vikings currently lead the league, with Franklin in third place. This is the first meeting of the year between East Hall and Franklin; they play again on Feb. 6 in the final game of the regular season. Franklin has lost three straight games, while East Hall fell to rival Gainesville in its last start.
In girls games scheduled tonight:
Haralson County
No. 8 Dodge County (11-2) plays Warner Robins (9-5) in an important Region 2-AAA game.
