Carrollton 42, Troup County 14

How the game was won: Despite a scoreless first quarter against the host Troup County Tigers, the Carrollton offense exploded for 366 rushing yards and 103 yards through the air to clinch the Trojans fifth straight win. Carrollton turned it over on downs on the Troup 14 yard line its first possession and missed a 34-yard field goal later in the quarter before finishing its first of six touchdown drives in the early second quarter. Sophomore running back Jaylan Thomas found the end zone from 4-yards and led the way with a game-high 30 carries for 214 yards and three scores. Running mate Jarvis Terrell also averaged 7.1 yards per carry off his 14 touches (103 rushing yards) and finished with a pair of touchdowns. Mark Wright passed for an efficient 69 yards and a touchdown to Thomas Culwell off of 5-of-8 passing. In the final minutes, Andy Smith stepped in at quarterback and connected with Chris Moore on fourth down for a 34-yard gain, the Trojans longest play from scrimmage.

While Carrollton chipped away at the Tigers defense the final three quarters, Troup’s success came solely from explosive plays. Mess Bonner ran in a 40-yard touchdown in the second quarter that answered Carrollton’s first score and later caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Dextreion Shealey in the third quarter that cut the lead to 28-14. Troup drove down to the Carrollton 13-yard line with a chance to make it a one-score game, but turned it over on downs and the Trojans finished the game with Terrell and Thomas touchdown runs as the offense controlled time of possession for 9:06 of the game’s final 12 minutes. Troup finished just 1-of-8 on third down conversions and was 0-for-2 on fourth downs.
