A junior-varsity football player at Camden County High on the Georgia coast was beaten and thrown into a trash can by teammates Monday as three assistant coaches watched, two TV stations and a newspaper reported Thursday.

Part of the incident was caught on tape and posted on the social media Snapchat, according to Jacksonville TV station News 4 Jax, which published a copy of the video.

Four football players have been suspended for Camden County's football game Friday against Brunswick, The Brunswick News reported.

The alleged beating occurred in a Camden County locker room Monday and was filmed and posted on social media but later removed, according to First Coast News of Jacksonville, citing a police report. First Coast News reported that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation also is probing the incident.

According to the police report, an unidentified player was attacked for wearing black, the school colors of Glynn Academy, during last week’s varsity game between Camden and Glynn Academy in Brunswick. The JV player’s girlfriend is a Glynn Academy cheerleader, and the victim was a spectator at the Friday game and not on the sidelines.

Two Camden County coaches, identified as offensive coordinator Greg Slatery and assistant Derek Chastain, were accused of encouraging retaliation, according to the police report cited by First Coast News. Chastain and two other assistants, Cedrick Corse and Donald Green, allegedly witnessed the attack, the report said.

Camden County coach Welton Coffey confirmed the investigation to First Coast News and said the school’s administration had dealt with those involved but gave no details.
