Tom Fallaw, the DeKalb County native who led Cairo to a state championship in 2008, announced his resignation Wednesday, according to the Times-Enterprise of Thomasville.
The resignation was Fallaw's choice and Fallaw will remain in the school system, the newspaper quoted superintendent Lee Bailey as saying.
Fallaw, 44, a graduate of Cross Keys High and Georgia Southern, took the Cairo job in 2003. His teams were 116-34 in 12 seasons. Cairo was the Class AAA runner-up to Carver-Columbus in 2007 and unbeaten state champion (14-0) in 2008. Cairo won six region titles under Fallaw.
