has resigned as basketball coach at East Jackson after two seasons.

“It has been a great two years and we made history here,” said Boyd, who missed part of the season while having heart surgery.

East Jackson went 17-12 this and finished second to Morgan County in Region 8-AAA. The Eagles defeated Central Carroll in the first round of the state tournament before being eliminated by Cedar Grove.

Last year the Eagles were 18-11, placed third in the region and lost to Banks County in the first round of the playoffs. The 18 wins tied a school record.

Whoever replaces Boyd will have a great centerpiece in guard Drue Drinnon, who averaged 21.3 points, 7.3 assists and five rebounds.

“He led us to a deceptively good record against brutal competition,” Boyd said.

Boyd and his wife are moving to their permanent home in St. Simons. They had been living in the Athens area while their daughter was attending the University of Georgia. Boyd, who has won state championships at Campbell, Tucker, Berkmar and Milton, hopes to be coaching somewhere next season.
