The Chick-fil-A Classic championship went into overtime Tuesday night as the state power Miller Grove boys beat Tucker 60-58. Alterique Gilbert of Miller Grove was named the tournament MVP. Tucker entered the Classic ranked No. 2 at Class AAAAAA behind Shiloh while Miller Grove, winner of six state championships, is No. 1 at Class AAAAA.
Campbell Holiday Classic: The Campbell boys won their own tournament, beating Etowah 52-36. Leading the way for the Spartans was Lazerus Walker with 22 points and Mike Olmert had 16. Etowah score only two points in the third quarter as Campbell pulled away for the title.
Lake City Classic: The McIntosh boys beat host Allatoona 60-55 in the championship game. Jordan Lyons had 24 points, four rebounds and five assists to lead the Chiefs. In other games at the Classic Tuesday and behind 18 points from Kenny Lewis 17 points from Jaylen Cheffin, Fayette County slipped by Harrison 64-62. Hillgrove knocked off Whitfield Academy 67-48. For Hillgrove, Collin Sexton and Jourdan Julian went for 23 and 16 points, respectively.
Ram Classic: In a low-scoring championship game, the Shiloh girls beat host Grayson 31-27 for the Classic title. The MVP was Shiloh's Racquel Cranston, who finished the championship game with 12 points with four rebounds. Teammate Uche Ibebunjo had 13 rebounds. On the boys side, Grayson beat Cedar Shoals 54-51 in overtime for the title. In the OT, Grayson's Desmond Davis had six of his 12 points.
Nike BMASP Holiday Classic: The Laney boys won the title with a victory over host Berkmar 59-52. Warner Robins won the third-place game, beating Lanier (AL) 75-60. In an earlier game, Roswell knocked off North Miami 56-46, led by Jayden Comma with 12 points.
Deep South Classic: The Athens Christian boys beat Woodward Academy 71-40 to win the Classic at Brookwood High School. The tournament MVP went to Turtle Jackson, who had 20 points and 11 assists in the final game.
McDonalds Shootout: The Rockdale boys, behind Jalen Jordan's 23 points, beat Southside (SC) 57-43 in the championship game at Hart County High School.
Out of State Tournaments: At the Next Level Hoops Fest in Nashville, the Norcross boys beat Mentor High School (Ohio) 71-39 as Amir Butcher had 14 points ... The Wesleyan girls won the WNC Holiday Classic at UNC-Ashville by beating Belton Honea Path (S.C.) 71-12. Cairo Booker won tournament MVP and had 23 points in the championship game ... At the Naples Holiday Shootout, the Archer girls beat nationally ranked Argyle (Texas) 52-51 after dropping their first two games.
