Wesleyan advances on Thompson shutout

Alex Thompson pitched a five-hit shutout as Wesleyan defeated Holy Innocents’ 5-0 on Tuesday in Game 3 of their Class AA semifinal series. Thompson has signed with Ole Miss. Wesleyan’s Cole Mannion, a Holy Cross football recruit,  went 3-for-3 with a home run and a double. His two-run homer in the sixth inning made the score 4-0. Michael Payne’s two-run single in the second gave Wesleyan its first lead. Wesleyan will face Region 6-AA rival Lovett in the championship series, which begins Saturday.

O’Meara, Achecar team up for 1-hitter to lead Lovett

Ben O’Meara and Freddy Achecar combined on a one-hit shutout as Lovett defeated Greater Atlanta Christian 4-0 in their Class AA semifinal series. O’Meara went five innings and struck out four. Achecar pitched two hitless innings. J.P. McGuire got GAC’s only hit, an infield single in the fourth inning. Lovett’s Aaron Schunk, who has signed with Georgia, hit a two-run home in the fifth inning for a 4-0 lead. Lovett scored two unearned runs in the first inning. Lovett will face Region 6-AA rival Wesleyan in the championship series, which begins Saturday.

Dunn, Dore power Blessed Trinity to 9-1 win over Jackson County

Blessed Trinity, the defending champion in AAA, beat Jackson County 9-1 in Game 3 and advanced to the final against Region 4 rival Westminster. The series begins Saturday at Blessed Trinity. Blessed Trinity scored runs in each of the first five innings. David Dunn was 3-for-3. Colin Dore was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Colin Davis was 2-for-4 with a triple. C.J. Abrams was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. Peyton Glavine pitched six innings, allowing one run and three hits. Connor Durham pitched the scoreless seventh.

Houston County holds off Gainesville in AAAAA

Tanner Hall pitched a one-hitter, and Houston County defeated Gainesville 2-0 in Game 3 of their Class AAAAA series. Hall struck out five and walked two, both in the final inning, when he got out of a bases-loaded jam. Hall also had two hits. D.L. Hall doubled in a run in the third inning. Dillon Strickland homered for a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Houston County will face the Loganville-South Effingham winner in the final. [Note: Gainesville, the home team and official scorer, ruled that its leadoff batter in the seventh reached on error on a hard ground ball to short; Houston County ruled it a hit, and thus reported Hall with a two-hitter.]

Loganville-South Effingham game postponed

The Class AAAAA semifinal Game 3 between Loganville and South Effingham was rained out Tuesday and will be played Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Guyton, home of South Effingham.
