Eight Georgia high school baseball teams will play at the Braves’ SunTrust Park on Friday and Saturday as part of the Atlanta Baseball Series.

On Friday, Upson Lee will play 10th-ranked Mary Persons of Class AAAA at 4 p.m. followed by Lamar County and Monticello at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, fifth-ranked Ringgold of AAA will play third-ranked Buford of AAAAA at 10 a.m. followed by eighth-ranked McIntosh and sixth-ranked Ola in a AAAAA game at 1 p.m.

‘’It will be an awesome experience for players and coaches,’’ Ringgold coach Brent Tucker said. “It’s a great opportunity to play a great team like Buford at SunTrust.’’

It might not be the last visit to SunTrust for some of the players. Ringgold center fielder Andre Tarver is committed to Mississippi State and likely to go highly in the June MLB Draft. He played at Wrigley Field last summer in the Under Armour All-American game and had two hits on the Chicago Cubs’ iconic home field.

Buford has a pair of Auburn signees, center fielder Austin Turner and pitcher Ramsey David.

The Braves also hosted a high school game on Monday between Riverwood and Jackson of Atlanta. That was called the “42” Jackie Robinson Classic. Both teams wore “42” jerseys in alignment with league-wide Jackie Robinson Day celebrations. Riverwood won 3-1.

The Atlanta Baseball Series is part of an deal with the Georgia High School Association announced officially on Thursday. SunTrust will be the site for the Class AAAAAAA finals next month. Also as part of the deal, Braves coaches and former players will conduct clinics for high school and youth coaches.
