- Is Allatoona the state's best team, regardless of classification? The Buccaneers could be and, on first glance of the blurbs in the latest polls, it would appear the they are at least on paper. The brief states that Allatoona beat the state's top-ranked team, Lambert, on Feb. 27. However, according to LaxPower.com, Lambert beat the Bucs 10-8. Regardless, the Bucs played Lambert close and knocked North Gwinnett out of its top spot on Monday by beating the Bulldogs 12-11. The Bucs have held A-AAAAA's top ranking for two weeks now.
- Buford debuted in the rankings last week and continue to climb as a program on the rise. The Wolves beat Wesleyan 17-15 on Tuesday, with the Kesserling brothers -- Payton (six goals) and Gavin (five goals) -- leading the way, followed by the Mitchell brothers -- Connor (three goals) and Grant (two goals) leading the way. There are six sets of brothers on the team, and the Wolves have six starting freshmen. "This is a really unique team," Wolves lacrosse director Jason Breyo said. Breyo arrived at Buford last summer after six years at Lambert.
