MILLEDGEVILLE – The St. Pius X Lady Golden Lions are headed to the Class AAA state title game after defeating the Beach Lady Bulldogs 67-53 on Saturday night at Georgia College.

The Lady Golden Lions (29-3), will face the Buford Lady Wolves next Saturday, Mar. 11 at the Macon Centerplex. The defending state champion Lady Golden Eagles will play for a repeat, and tip-off is 3 p.m.

The Lady Golden Lions won thanks to phenomenal efforts from their two star guards, junior Asia Durr and senior Jasmine Carter. Durr finished with a game-high 34 points and Carter chipped in 19. The two accounted for 53 of the Lady Golden Lions’ 67 points and 28 of the team’s 30 first-half points.

“We had to keep attacking,” said Carter, who has committed to Georgia. “We played well, played together and pulled it through.”

After taking a 30-22 lead into halftime and a 50-41 lead heading to the fourth quarter, the Lady Golden Lions began to pull away. Miah Allen’s basket put the Lady Golden Lions up 60-45 with 4:45 remaining for their largest lead of the night. The Lady Bulldogs (29-2) never got any closer than 13 points the rest of the way.

Now, the only team that stands in St. Pius X’s way is Buford.

“We just have to stay focused for this week,” said Carter, “practice hard, listen to our coaches and play how we play. It’s gotten us this far.”

Jada Young led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 points.
