many just days ago, but now they’re being talked about by people in distant towns around the state.

That's the case of four players in the spotlight this week: Southwest Macon freshman Jordan Slocumb, Islands sophomore K eion Pringle, Ringgold freshman Andre Tarver and Jefferson sophomore Colby Wood.

Slocumb, a 6-foot-4 quarterback, shook off some early nerves and led the Patriots to a 38-32 win over rival Northeast. He carried 13 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns in the final quarter. He completed 6 of 15 passes for 112 yards.

Pringle, a 6-foot, 200-pound running back, came prepared to carry 30 times in the season opener. He wound up with 25 rushes for 137 yards and scored on a 45-yard run on the first play from scrimmage to help the Sharks beat Groves 8-0. Islands won only one game in 2014 and had never won a season opener.

Tarver, a wide receiver, was the most popular target of quarterback Devin Lancaster in a 36-34 win over Heritage-Catoosa. Tarver caught five passes for 191 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown. Lancaster completed 22 of 32 for 376 yards, but the outcome wasn’t sealed until senior Garrett Morris intercepted a pass at the 1 yard line in the final minute.

Wood, a sophomore, proved his work in the first week was no fluke. He carried 32 times for 238 yards and four touchdowns and caught a 20-yard touchdown pass in a 32-17 win over Winder-Barrow. In two games Wood has rushed 61 times for 496 yards and seven touchdowns.
