Much to the relief of Georgia Tech coaches, freshmen Brad and Scott Morgan are merely fraternal twins, though they resemble each other.
There are “some people who think we’re actually identical,” said Brad, an offensive lineman.
He further offered a tip for those who have trouble differentiating the two Etowah High graduates. He has a mole on the center of his neck. Scott has a mole on the side of his neck.
“We also have different faces, too,” he said helpfully. “It’s hard to tell at the start, but once you actually see us a lot more, you’ll understand it.”
Tech’s second set of twins on the roster (following sophomore defensive backs Lance and Lawrence Austin) will add depth on both lines of scrimmage. Scott is starting out at defensive tackle. Brad is working with the offensive line.
If Brad redshirts, which is the typical course for an offensive lineman, his timing is pretty good. The Yellow Jackets will lose two seniors off the starting five (guard Trey Braun and tackle Bryan Chamberlain) and possibly tackle Errin Joe if he decides to not seek to recover his final season of eligibility as a medical hardship case. He would be in the mix with a slew of underclassmen, including the large class brought in last summer. He and early-enrollee Will Bryan are the only two first-year scholarship freshman offensive linemen on the roster.
Prior to reporting in mid-June, Morgan said that his goal “is just to go in there and give the best I can and see what happens from there. That’s the goal. If I redshirt, so be it.”
On his recruiting video, Morgan shows adeptness at pulling (he played right guard for Etowah), explosiveness at the point of attack and finishing blocks. He also demonstrates leverage usage one might expect of a former wrestler. (Offensive linemen Chris Griffin and Braun also wrestled in high school)
He has added nine pounds to his listed weight (266 pounds, and 6-foot-5) and said he has slimmed up in the process.
Following the Tech-prescribed workout prior to the Morgans’ arrival for was “tough to do, but we’re getting through it, and we’ve seen some results.”
Morgan committed to Tech last summer, turning down Minnesota and Marshall, in particular. Florida showed interest after his commitment. Morgan was enticed, but had no interest in going through a decommitment.
“Georgia Tech’s too good to pass up,” he said.
