Linebacker Jakob Brashear was an early commitment to the Georgia Tech signing class, accepting Tech’s scholarship offer in March, the second player to commit following Xavier Gantt of Buford High. A graduate of Dacula High, he is one of four freshmen from Gwinnett County. Brashear is 6-foot-1 and 221 pounds. He’ll wear No. 49, last worn by A-back Clinton Lynch, who is now wearing No. 22. An honorable mention all-state player for Class AAAAAA, Brashear was named all-county in Gwinnett and was a three-star prospect with 247 Sports.

Why he chose Tech:
"I love the coaches, I love the facilities, its close proximity to home, it’s a really good fit and the education, you don’t get much better than that."
What he’s most excited about:
“I’m excited to show the coaches what I can do and trying to come in and make a name for myself.”
What he did to prepare for Tech:
“I’ve been lifting and running daily. I’m trying to come in in the best shape possible.”
That included sprints, agility, hill work and distance running. Brashear said he was able to run a mile in the low seven-minute range.
Biggest concern:
“Maybe just keeping up with classes and football at the same time, which I don’t think should be that much of a problem, but I’m always a little nervous coming in.”
How he stands out:
“I don’t think you’ll find anybody that works harder than me, that’s for sure. That’s something I pride myself on.”
Brashear had this ethic instilled into him by his father, who served 23 years in the Army.
“He likes to make sure I do stuff on time,” he said. “Like, if forget to take out the garbage, he’ll call me at my friend’s house, makes me come all the way home to take it out. Stuff like that.”
How he hopes his career will go:
“I want to be able to say I gave it my all, gave the most effort all the time. I’m going to leave my mark, make sure people remember me.”
One thing he was making sure to bring with him:
“My PlayStation 4. I like video games. Whenever I’m not studying or playing football, that’s probably where you’ll catch me.”
A memorable part of his recruitment:
Brashear said his visit to Tech for junior day.
“it opened my eyes up and I realized I wanted to go to Tech. Seeing their education, how good it was, the facilities, meeting the coaches. I knew I wanted to go to Tech and committed not too long after.”
