Six former Georgia Tech golfers will compete for the British Open Championship beginning Thursday. It’s a record total for the program.
Former Yellow Jackets in the field at Royal Liverpool Golf Club:
Roberto Castro is playing in his first Open. He made it into the field by finishing last season in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings.
Stewart Cink is playing in his 17th Open. Cink, the 2009 champion, is in by virtue of an exemption granted to all past winners 60 or under.
David Duval, playing in his 18th Open. Duval, the 2001 champion, is also in through the past champions exemption.
Chesson Hadley is also playing in his first Open. He was exempted by being in the top 80 in the official world golf rankings at the end of June.
Matt Kuchar is in his 10th Open. The world's No. 5 player qualified via a number of exemptions, including his 2012 win at the Players Championship.
Cameron Tringale is the third former Tech player in his first Open. He took one of the last available spots, taking one of the four qualifier spots available at the Greenbrier Classic, where he tied for fifth.
