Georgia Tech guard Chris Bolden may have played his final game of the season. Thursday, the school announced a six-game suspension for Bolden for violating the school’s student-athlete conduct policy.
Having been held out of Monday’s win over Clemson, the suspension will extend through the final four games of the regular season and the Yellow Jackets' opening game of the ACC tournament. It is the second time that Bolden has been suspended in his career. He served a three-game suspension at the beginning of the 2013-14 season for violating team rules.
“We have high expectations for our student-athletes and he hasn’t met those expectations,” coach Brian Gregory said following Monday’s game, when he said that Bolden was indefinitely suspended.
Gregory did not have further comment on the suspension following the team's Thursday practice. A school spokesman confirmed that the reason for it was not a legal matter.
Bolden, a junior, had played in all 25 games before the suspension, starting 11. He was showing better form in recent weeks, scoring more consistently and playing better defense. He is shooting 41.0 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from 3-point range, both better than his season rates from his first two seasons. He is averaging 6.9 points per game.
Tech will play at No. 15 North Carolina Saturday.
