Georgia Tech defensive tackle Adam Gotsis missed the final three games of the season, but made enough of an impression to be named All-ACC third-team by the league’s coaches.
Gotsis was the sole honoree for the Yellow Jackets on the coaches’ All-ACC team. Center Freddie Mitchell received honorable mention for the second year in a row (he was honored last year on the media All-ACC team), and linebacker Brant Mitchell received one vote for defensive rookie of the year.
Gotsis was the Jackets’ top player this past season, finishing the season with 31 tackles, five for loss and a team-best three sacks. He put up the numbers despite missing three quarters of the North Carolina game after a disqualification for targeting, nearly all of the Virginia game after tearing his ACL on the first play from scrimmage and the subsequent three games. Gotsis was named second-team All-ACC by coaches last season.
Burden was probably the most consistent player on Tech’s offensive line, which struggled all season but still led the league in rushing average (256.17 yards per game) and was third in yards per rush (5.27 yards per carry).
Receiving increasing playing time as the season went on, Mitchell had 36 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. He had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.
On the media All-ACC team released last week, Gotsis and offensive linemen Trey Braun and Bryan Chamberlain all received honorable mention.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was named coach of the year and Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson was named conference player of the year.
