The proceeds from a one-percent sales tax in Gwinnett County will soon go toward the installation of new sidewalks near Georgia Gwinnett College.
Funds from the 2014 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax will be used for curb, gutter and drainage improvements are planned for Collins Hill Road and Plunketts Road. Gwinnett commissioners awarded a $756,238 contract for the project on Tuesday to Omshiv Construction.
Along Collins Hill Road, a five-foot wide sidewalk will be installed on the west side. It will extend from the existing sidewalk north of University Center Lane to the Georgia Gwinnett College tennis facility at Countryside Place.
On Plunketts Road, a new sidewalk will be built on the east side and extend from the entrance to the Environmental Heritage Center to the existing sidewalk at the Woodward Crossing subdivision.
Both projects are expected to be completed by mid-2016.
The announcement comes the same week that GDOT announced plans for several other road improvement projects in Gwinnett. For details on those investments, click here: http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local/georgia-dot-invests-millions-in-gwinnett-road-resu/npGJf/
