A long-time employee of the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation has been appointed to lead the department into the future.

Alan Chapman, acting director of Gwinnett DOT since October, has been employed with the department for nearly two decades. He was chosen last week to head the department by Gwinnett County Administrator Glenn Stephens, the county announced in a press release.

Commissioners are expected to approve Chapman’s employment agreement on Tuesday.

Earlier in his career, Chapman worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation and served as an engineering and construction consultant.

Chapman is is registered professional engineer, he holds an MBA from Georgia State University and has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Georgia Tech. Chapman lives with his wife, Anne, and two daughters in Lawrenceville.
