Predicting Atlanta United’s starting 11 vs. Real Salt Lake

ajc.com

Who will start for Atlanta United in Friday’s game at Real Salt Lake?

I think manager Frank de Boer will go with mostly familiar starters as the team tries to bounce back from Sunday's 1-0 loss at New York Red Bulls.

Here we go:

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan

Right fullback Franco Escobar.

Centerback Miles Robinson.

Centerback Leandro Gonzalez Pirez.

Left fullback Brek Shea. I think Shea is back in for Michael Parkhurst as the two continue to swap starts.

Defensive midfielder Eric Remedi. I think Remedi is back in the starting lineup after getting a game off.

Defensive midfielder Darlington Nagbe.

Wide midfielder Julian Gressel. I wouldn't be surprised to see Justin Meram start in place of Gressel, who has already logged more than 900 minutes in league games this season. But, I think it'll be Gressel.

Wide midfielder Dion Pereira. I think Pereira will get the nod over Meram because Pereira is naturally left-footed and therefore a better fit on the left side. Meram is right-footed and cuts in from the left. To create width, and possibly space, Pereira gets the nod.

Attacking midfielder Pity Martinez. I half-thought Martinez might get this game off to avoid the travel, get some rest, and come back for the final two games. After playing well against Orlando, his impact hasn't been as great in the past two games against Vancouver and New York Red Bulls. But they need to get him going, so he will stay in the lineup.

Striker Josef Martinez.

Tell me if you like the formation and the personnel.
