From the Hawks
Tim Hardaway Jr. will face his former team and admits to a chip on his shoulder following the trade. “I was surprised but at the same time the NBA is a business and I’m happy where I am right now.” … On being inactive for the season opener, Hardaway Jr. said “Obviously, you always want to be active as a player and you always want to dress to help the team. At the same time, I was on the sideline calling out plays and helping my teammates. … At the end of the day, I felt like I was part of the team.” … Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said the team will continue to be cautious with Thabo Sefolosha as he returns from a broken leg and ankle ligament damage. “Back-to-backs are going to be something we’ll monitor especially early in the season.” … Budenholzer said there was no timetable for a return of Mike Muscala from a right ankle sprain. He did not travel with the team to New York to avoid additional swelling caused by the flight. “We are hoping it’s not something that is terribly long,” Budenholzer said.
From the Knicks
The Knicks won their season-opener, a 122-97 win at the Bucks Wednesday. … The Knicks return only six players from last season with 12 new players on the roster. … Carmelo Anthony is the longest-tenured current Knicks player as he begins his fifth season in New York. … Rookie Kristaps Porzingis, the fourth overall pick, had 16 points in his debut.
