FLOWERY BRANCH – The Falcons finished their first training camp practice under head coach Dan Quinn a little early on Friday.

There was a minor scare.

Here are five things that we learned:

1. Quinn was pleased: The first practice went well.

“I liked the attitude and the style,” Quinn said. “For the players, I couldn’t have been more excited to get started.”

The Falcons finished a couple of periods early and that's why they were able to end sooner than expected.

“We have a long way to go, but for the first day in terms of where we want to get to, I was really pleased,” Quinn said. “We only had one penalty called and the turnover rate was one takeaway defensively. One turnover for the offense. But for the first day, there was a lot to do. I liked their mindset.”

2. High energy: "For the coaches we feed a lot off the players too and the energy that they bring is contagious," Quinn said. "I know that we'll play our really best when we are close."

3. Offensive line: The Falcons had left tackle Jake Matthews sharing snaps with Tyler Polumbus. Matthews is coming back from foot surgery. Mike Person was at left guard, James Stone center, right guard Jon Asamoah and right tackler Ryan Schraeder.

Schraeder didn’t finish practice after suffering a muscle strain.

4. The Secondary: During the seven-on-seven drills, Desmond Trufant was the left cornerback, Robert Alford at the right cornerback spot, Ricardo Allen at free safety and William Moore at strong safety.

Phillips Adams was the nickel back and second-round pick Jalen Collins came in at right cornerback behind Alford.

Adams had the only interception of the day.

5. Position battle of the day. Running backs Devonta Freeman opened with the first team offense, but rookie Tevin Coleman said he plans on winning the job. We'll keep an eye on this one.
