As the original member of “Team Grimey,” I read the SI article with great interest.
My fraternity brother and former Falcons scout Bruce Plummer discovered him at Shippensburg and recommend that he be signed. He told me to ‘keep an eye’ on him and that ‘he can play.’
For years, while the Falcons figured out what to do with Grimes, I marveled at his practice play, while other drafted players took turns getting scorched. I even wrote an article about his vertical jump and how he'd leap over trash cans for fun. (That was back when practice was open to the media! Now, the media -- and indirectly the fans -- just get the league-minimum of 30 minutes of stretching and that gets old by about Week 3).
Grimes was dubbed “All-Flowery Branch” because he was doing his thing at practice.
I was later kicked off of "Time Grimey." You can google it. It got kind of messy, but I tried to take the high road.
He’s with Tampa Bay now and has turned into a four-time Pro Bowler and that should be the story.
Happy for him that he’s "made it" like Plummer predicted.
Just going to leave this SI article right here.
