FLOWERY BRANCH – Falcons linebacker Paul Worrilow has gone from undrafted rookie to signal-caller on a NFL defense in a little over a year.

With Sean Weatherspoon out for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon, Worrilow will be the unit’s signal-caller. He’ll have the green dot on his helmet.

Worrilow spent a lot of time in the weight room this offseason in an attempt to get stronger. He also reviewed the film on every snap from last season to see what worked for him and to analyze where he needs to make some adjustments.

“We want to come out with a lot more energy and make a statement that we are a lot tougher,” Worrilow said.

He is still able to pick Weatherspoon’s brain. While working with the training staff, Weatherspoon has been attending the linebacker meetings.

The Falcons have added some beef up front in defensive end Tyson Jackson and Paul Soliai.

Worrilow believes that he will be free to make more plays in defensive coordinator Mike Nolan’s scheme, which allows the linebacker search and flow to the football.

Calling the signals is not totally new for Worrilow. He called the signals in college at Delaware.

Worrilow, after being signed as an undrafted player, played a major role last season and led the team in tackles with 137 tackles.

Right now, he’s working inside with Joplo Bartu.

“We spend a lot of time with each other going over stuff and we try to push each other out on the field,” Worrilow said.
