FLOWERY BRANCH -- Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan may have the offense ranked first in the league in total offense at 448 yards per game, but he clearly needs to work on his blocking.

He'll be over with the offensive linemen hitting the blocking sled today when the Falcons return to practice.

Ryan was roasted on the plane ride from New Orleans for his failed blocking attempt against Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley as running back Devonta Freeman was cutting back across the field.

“His teammates certainly let him see that one," Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. "It was definitely the wrong time to catch a cleat in the grass. Some people would call it a business decision and he certainly would not.”

Ryan was in position to block the 308-pound defensive tackle.

"I didn’t really anticipate the ball coming back that way," Ryan said. "And when he did, I just kind of wanted to get in the way and make sure he could outrun him. And I caught an edge on my cleat and fell."

Freeman thought it was a wise move by Ryan.

Even Ryan's wife, the lovely Mrs. Sarah, got in on the ribbing.
