SAN JOSE, CALIF. – Couldn't fit this into our Super Bowl coverage, but wanted to share with the Falcons fans.
Denver safety T.J. Ward is proud of his younger brother Terron Ward, who made the Falcons as an undrafted rookie and played in 13 games last season.
Terron Ward, who backed up Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, rushed for 95 yards on 29 carries and scored a touchdown.
“I talk to him all the time,” T.J. Ward said on the NFL’s Opening Day, formerly known as media day. “I’m proud of that dude. To go in as a free agent and then make the team and play the whole season. That’s great.”
T.J. Ward, a two-time Pro Bowler, went on to have a key fumble recovery, an interception and seven tackles in Denver’s 24-10 Super Bowl victory over the Carolina Panthers.
“People think that I’ve just had these varying years and have overcome a lot, but he has too,” T.J. Ward said. “He was one of the top running backs in California coming out of high school, but only got one scholarship offer.
“He had a rough time at Oregon State. He didn’t get the respect and love that he deserved. Then ended up not getting drafted. Then he made the team as a free agent, he’s been through a lot, too.”
