On the day after the shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport where Delta Air Lines operates, airline and airport officials are working to assist passengers who were affected, including those who left their luggage behind in the rush to evacuate the terminal.
About 20,000 items left behind in the terminal during the evacuation have been collected by the Fort Lauderdale airport. Those who evacuated from the airport and left their belongings in the terminal should follow the airport's twitter feed @FLLFlyer for updates on where and when to pick up the items.
Passengers who left checked or carry-on items on a Delta plane during the evacuation of the Fort Lauderdale airport due to the shooting should contact Delta at 888-977-1005, the airline said.
Airlines have also cancelled their flights at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in the wake of the Friday shooting at the terminal where Delta operates there.
Delta said Terminal 2 where it operates remains closed due to the investigation into the shooting, and it is rescheduling customers to fly via Miami or West Palm Beach. Delta is also waiving change fees for customers scheduled to fly to or from Fort Lauderdale who want to alter their travel plans.
Southwest Airlines said it cancelled its domestic flights at Fort Lauderdale through 1 p.m. Saturday.
