The month of December will kick off Wednesday with temperatures near 70 degrees in Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Parts of North Georgia could break into the 70s this afternoon, while Atlanta is expected to reach 68 degrees. The average high for this time of year is 60, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
“And it gets even warmer on Thursday and Friday,” he said. “I think we’ll break some record high temperatures by Friday afternoon.”
Extra clouds in the sky Wednesday morning are contributing to a milder start. Temperatures are in the upper 40s in the city, much higher than Tuesday’s start in the 30s. Monahan said warm coats and jackets won’t be needed for long, with sunshine expected to warm things up quickly.
“We’re going to have a few more clouds today, but that’s about it,” he said. “No rain from those clouds for us this afternoon.”
Another mild start is in the forecast Thursday, followed by an afternoon high of 73 degrees, according to Channel 2. Friday’s projected high of 75 degrees would break the record 74 set in 2012.
“It’s gonna be a really warm start to this year’s month of December,” Monahan said.

There are major delays on I-285 at the start of the Wednesday morning commute after a crash in Fulton County. At times all southbound lanes are blocked at Cascade Road, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Outer loop traffic is already backing up on the westside Perimeter, the Traffic Center reported before 7 a.m. Commuters can use the Downtown Connector instead.
