Metro Atlanta’s warm weather streak will continue Wednesday with afternoon highs in the mid-70s, according to Channel 2 Action News.
After a chilly start, Atlanta is expected to reach a high of 74 degrees, which is 10 degrees above average for this time of year. The weather the past few days is doing nothing to suggest Thanksgiving is a week away, but Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said changes are just around the corner.
“Those changes are going to come in the form of some rain,” Monahan said. “Right here on Thursday, we’re going to have some showers around, and then cooler temperatures are going to follow that system. That’s going to get us more to that holiday feel, temperature-wise.”
Wednesday will be a day to dress in layers, he said. Temperatures are in the 40s and 50s for a milder start, but things should warm up quickly with a mostly clear sky and lots of sunshine.
Monahan said clouds will stay to the west Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s cold front.
“If you are looking to get outside, please do it,” he said. “Get outside and enjoy what’s going to be a nice Wednesday for us.”
He expects Thursday to start out dry, but a 30% chance of showers will develop by the afternoon. Those north of I-20 will have the best chance of a shower, but not everyone will see the rain, Monahan said.
Thursday could be the last day in the 70s for a while, as temperatures are expected to crash behind the front. Lows in the 30s are forecast Friday, with highs in the low 60s, according to Channel 2.

Monahan said Thursday’s showers should clear out well before a partial lunar eclipse, which will be visible starting at 1 a.m. Friday. The best time to view the eclipse will be around 4 a.m., when the moon is setting on the western horizon, he said.
“Set your alarms. Get up early,” he said. “It should be a great view in North Georgia for that.”
There are delays all around town Wednesday morning as the commute gets underway, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Commuters should expect to slow down at Spaghetti Junction after an earlier crash on the ramp from I-85 South to I-285 West.
The ride on I-85 is slower than normal leaving Lawrenceville, clocking in at 22 minutes from Ga. 316 to the Perimeter, the Traffic Center reported at 7 a.m.
There are also extra delays out of Douglasville after a series of early crashes. The latest wreck was partially blocking a right lane on I-20 West at Fairburn Road, according to the Traffic Center.
Delays continue on I-285, where authorities temporarily blocked the inner loop to clear a crash near Cascade Road. Traffic reporter Mark Arum is advising commuters to leave some extra time no matter their destinations Wednesday.
