With a chilly morning and warm afternoon, it’s another day to layer up in metro Atlanta.

“Lots of sunshine has been the story of the week; it will be the story of your Wednesday. We’ve got a mostly sunny sky in the forecast for the afternoon,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

In line with the weather trend of the last several days, the day is starting off crisp in the 40s and 50s but will warm up into the mid 70s by the afternoon. That’s slightly above the average high of 72 degrees for this time of year. This weekend, though, it will be downright hot with highs expected in the low 80s.

It’s an area of high pressure that is hovering over the region and keeping the cold air bottled up in Canada, Monahan said.

“With strong high pressure in control, that pushes the jet stream to the north and that means our temperatures warm up,” he said.

That colder air will eventually make its way further south, but it’s still about a week away, so Halloween should still be warm — just maybe not quite as warm. The projected high on Tuesday is around 74 degrees with a low of 47.

As for rain, “It stays mainly dry, not only today but really all the way through the weekend and likely into the beginning of November,” Monahan said.

There is still a very slight chance for a small shower on Thursday, especially on the east side, but most of us, “and by most, I mean 90% or more of us are going to stay completely dry,” he said.
