There should be plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors over the next few days as North Georgia gets yet another spring preview.
The month of March is just beginning, but high temperatures in the upper 60s Tuesday will be more typical of early April, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. There is no rain in the forecast Tuesday, but there is a chill in the air as many neighborhoods start the day near freezing.
“Outside of the cold we have this morning, it’s gonna be a nice start to the day,” Monahan said. “Lots of sunshine on the way and a warm afternoon for us.”
Temperatures were below the freezing point in the mountains and just above it in Atlanta before sunrise. With some moisture in the air, Monahan said those on the Northside might need to leave some time to defrost their windshields Tuesday morning.
Monahan’s best advice is to dress in layers Tuesday, he said. Once the sun gets going, temperatures will rise quickly and enter springtime territory. Even warmer weather is in store for the end of the week as dry conditions and sunshine prevail.
“The spring preview really builds in as the week goes on,” he said. “We’re headed for the mid- to upper 70s late this week, and even warmer for the weekend. A chance of temperatures near 80 in a few neighborhoods, that is possible by Saturday and especially Sunday.”

It may be chilly Monday morning, but metro Atlanta traffic is warming up at the start of the morning drive. Things are moving smoothly around town, even through the heart of the city on the Downtown Connector, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
“Starting to see more volume fill in on the roadway, but overall the trip time looks great under 10 mins between 17th Street and Langford Parkway,” traffic reporter Mike Shields said before 6:30 a.m.
Conditions are much improved on I-285 North at Langford Parkway, where lanes had been closed since Monday morning for emergency bridge repair. The lanes reopened overnight, and there are no impacts to the morning commute.
“What a difference 12 hours makes,” Shields said. “All lanes are back open. Traffic is moving just fine on the Westside Perimeter.”
Delays are building on Ga. 400 South, however. Active construction in a right lane is causing a major slowdown leaving Northridge Road. The Traffic Center suggests commuters use Roswell Road instead out of the northern suburbs.
