Tuesday will be a chilly one for North Georgia with frost advisories in the mountains and morning lows in the 40s in Atlanta.
Even with lots of sunshine in the forecast, the region won’t warm up much this afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. The mountains won’t make it out of the 50s, and Atlanta’s projected high is just 63 degrees. It will be dry, however.
“All the way into the weekend, leave the umbrella at home,” Monahan said. “We’re going to be nice and dry across North Georgia. Don’t leave the jacket inside, though. It’s going to be a chilly day.”
The cool weather Tuesday is not typical of mid-April, but Monahan said it will be short-lived. By Friday, he expects Atlanta will be back in the 80s for highs.
“The warmups come fast this time of year,” he said. “We go from 63 today to 73 Wednesday, 77 Thursday and we’re into the 80s over the weekend. We might slip in an isolated shower by Thursday morning. That chance, though, is pretty small.”
Monahan said a wet weather system passing to the north on Wednesday night could result in a few sprinkles Thursday morning in the mountains. For the rest of the region, the system will result in a few more clouds.
The next chance of widespread rain won’t arrive until next week, according to Monahan.
At least for Tuesday, there is nothing but sunshine in the forecast. The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for several mountain counties until 9 a.m. Monahan said a light breeze is preventing any issues on mountain roads.
“That makes it feel colder but really prevents the frost from settling first thing in the morning,” he said. “We’re doing OK, I think, in most spots.”
Cooler conditions could help stave off pollen levels. The daily count remained high Monday at 779 particles per cubic meter of air. Tuesday’s count is expected to be released by 9 a.m.
