Thursday will be another day to dress for two different seasons in metro Atlanta.
With temperatures in the 30s before sunrise, heavy coats are warranted for a wintry start to the day. But temperatures will rise into the low 60s by the afternoon, and all that will be needed are a pair of sunglasses, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
“Today, tomorrow, Saturday all look like beautiful afternoons,” he said. “A little bit of a spring preview. It’s going to feel a bit like March over the next few days.”
Highs in Atlanta are typically in the upper 50s this time of year. With a little more than a month to go before the official start of spring, Thursday is expected to reach a high of 62 degrees. That number typically isn’t seen until March 1, according to Monahan.
“Nothing but sunshine later today,” he said. “Just a few high clouds around this afternoon. Over the weekend clouds will increase a bit. Part of the weekend is warm, the other part is not so warm.”

Temperatures are expected to take a nosedive Sunday on the other side of a cold front. After reaching a projected high of 63 degrees Saturday afternoon, Atlanta might not make it out of the 40s on Sunday, according to the latest forecast.
Monahan said the cold front will also come with a 20% chance of a shower Sunday morning.
“It should stay dry Saturday, but by Sunday as this front slides in, much colder air settles in,” he said. “There may be an isolated sprinkle, but that big difference is going to be the drop in temperatures.”

There are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates at the start of the Thursday morning drive, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. No longstanding closures or serious wrecks were reported as of 6:30 a.m.
Drivers headed downtown before sunrise could experience a brief tap of the brakes getting past a crash on the Downtown Connector. The crash was sitting on the left shoulder of the southbound lanes before Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the Traffic Center reported.
