A front of heavy rain is supposed to push east of the Atlanta area late Saturday night into the early morning hours. That should mean a dry morning Sunday, but the overnight rains could cause a different kind of inclement weather pattern.

“I think we’ll get off to a quieter start as far as the rain is concerned,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. “But thanks to all that lingering moisture, there could be some areas of patchy, dense fog that you’ll need to watch out for.”

The metro area will awaken to a morning low of 70 degrees with cloudy skies Sunday. There will be a break in the clouds with areas of sunshine later in the morning and early afternoon.

The afternoon high is 84 in Atlanta with a 70% chance of rain for the day. Those storms are expected to arrive around 4 p.m. when North Georgia could see another round of afternoon showers and storms, according to Deon’s forecast.

“We could see that continuing right on into the late part of the evening and early Sunday night,” she said.

The rain could continue through the early part of the week. There’s a chance of showers Monday and Tuesday and partly cloudy skies expected Wednesday, the five-day weather outlook indicates.

Rainfall is expected to continue throughout the week in Atlanta and surrounding cities and counties, according to Channel 2 Action News' five-day outlook.
