SUNDAY’S WEATHER: Isolated showers to close out first weekend of fall

ajc.com

Mild temperatures most of Saturday made for a perfect fall day, but the humidity and rain are returning for Sunday.

The morning will start off cool in the low 60s and warm quite a bit into the mid-80s by the afternoon. It won’t be as dry and sunny as Saturday, but it will certainly be warmer.

“A warmer day. This will be again in advance of a cold front that’s going to be moving through,” according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.

Noticeable changes will be taking place as we move into the latter half of the day and as the cold front moves through. Cloudy skies and a few showers will settle in, but the chance of rain will remain low.

Moving into the week ahead, cooler temperatures are in view. Monday is projected to hit a high of 82 degrees and no rain is expected. By Wednesday, we’ll see a high of 76 degrees and the rain will remain at bay.

Tropical Storm Ian has been forming across the central Caribbean sea and is expected to turn into a hurricane Sunday before turning toward the southernmost tip of the United States and some Caribbean islands. A hurricane watch is in effect for the Cayman Islands and a tropical storm watch has been posted for Jamaica. All counties in Florida are under a state of emergency and preparing for impact. Residents in Cuba continue monitoring the storm.

Despite the projected rain and wind in the Caribbean and southern parts of the country, metro Atlanta should stay mostly dry aside from some tropical moisture and isolated showers.

If you’re unsure of how to close out your weekend under the sun, the Sweet Auburn Music Fest is back in town for the weekend. The free festival, which ends Sunday, brings live music performances, art vendors and plenty of food from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The DeKalb County Pumpkin Festival will also continue this weekend and until Oct. 30 at Stone Mountain Park. Apart from the usual park attractions and entertainment during the day, the festival’s nighttime parade, pumpkin light show and glow-in-the-dark mini-golf can also be enjoyed by patrons.
