The rain will continue to pour across metro Atlanta on Saturday to kick off the holiday weekend.
It will be a partly cloudy morning with patches of fog to start the day before another round of scattered showers and storms develop Saturday afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action 2 News meteorologist Brad Nitz.
“If you’re under one of these storms, obviously very heavy rain, some gusty winds and lightning is going to be a threat,” Nitz said.
It's already been a wet and active start to the Fourth of July weekend🇺🇸🎇! Current radar shows scattered showers and thunderstorms across portions of north and central Georgia. Atlantans will wake to muggy conditions, although the early morning low is only 72 degrees intown, according to Nitz’s forecast.
It’s expected to get hot and humid in the afternoon, when temperatures will rise to a high of 87.
That’s when the storms are expected to arrive. People planning to go swimming in neighborhood pools and area lakes should be on the lookout for a threat of lightning in the afternoon and evening hours.
“Remember, if you’re close enough to the storm to hear thunder, you’re close enough to be struck,” Nitz advised. “Even if it’s not raining where you are. So keep that in mind, be safe this weekend.”

The rain won’t stop Saturday, according to Nitz’s five-day weather outlook. There’s a 40% chance of rain through the holiday weekend and midway into next week.
“Not a rainout any of these days,” Nitz said. “It’s just scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms each day. But we’ll have dry hours in the morning.”
Welcome to July!
