It will be a mild weekend in metro Atlanta, but the rain may keep you indoors Saturday.
Temperatures will remain above average through the weekend, with a high of 65 degrees and a low of 48 degrees. The morning will end in the low 60s with some scattered rain in the area. The afternoon will be primarily cloudy, and while the chance of rain will persist, it will remain drier in the afternoon and into the evening.
“As we head into the weekend, that’s when our rain chances increases, especially on Saturday morning with a few scattered showers around. Sunday, maybe some isolated showers,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Jennifer Lopez said.
The chance of rain on Sunday will decrease, but there is still the possibility of some showers during the mostly cloudy day. The week ahead is expected to remain wet as the chance of rain increases. Temperatures will remain mild, even reaching a high of 70 degrees by Wednesday.
If you’re planning on tailgating at Mercedes-Benz Stadium ahead of the SEC Championship game, you may want to bring an umbrella in case the rain tries to crash your celebrations. The Georgia Bulldogs will be facing the LSU Tigers for the conference title at 4 p.m. It’s the fifth time in the past six years that Georgia has represented the Eastern Division in the SEC Championship game.
If you’re looking for events to attend prior to the game, the SEC FanFare is taking place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Building C in Halls C1 to C3. The event is free for all and starts at 9 a.m.
Some road closures around Atlanta may cause backups, so plan ahead and know the areas to avoid. One right westbound lane on State Route 139 from Old Mill Court to Flat Shoals Road in Clayton County will be closed until Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two right lanes on the I-285 ramp leading to I-75 South under Akers Mill Road in Cobb County will be closed Saturday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
