This week marks the official start of fall, but it will feel more like summertime in North Georgia.
Highs in the 90s are in the forecast for much of this week, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. While some neighborhoods could top 90 degrees on Monday, there is a much better chance for Atlanta on Tuesday. And for the next few days after that.
Fall officially begins at 9:03 p.m. Thursday, and Monahan said by Friday temperatures will start to come down again. Until then, the region will make one more push for summertime humidity.
“The humidity is going to be a bit more noticeable for us today, and especially Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. That’s going to come with heat, too,” he said. “Ninety-degree or better high temperatures, and it’s going to feel a little hotter than that. It’s going to feel more like July or August for a couple of days.”
It might feel hot and sticky outside, but at least it will look nice. Monahan said dry conditions will continue all this week, and there is no chance of rain in the forecast. There should be plenty of sunshine to enjoy, he said.

“Clouds should hang out along the coast,” he said. “They will not bother us here. It will be mostly sunny through the afternoon as we climb up toward about 88 degrees. That is a few degrees above average.”
Tuesday will be even hotter with a projected high of 92 degrees, according to Monahan. Wednesday and Thursday should both top out at 93 before temperatures return to the 80s on Friday.
Mornings should still be pretty comfortable in the 60s and low 70s this week, according to the latest forecast. Those pining for a fall feel won’t have to wait too long.
“The humidity gets a little more comfortable by the end of the week,” Monahan said. “Next weekend looks pretty good.”
