Lots of sunshine in the forecast Monday will turn a cold start into a mild finish with afternoon highs in the mid-50s, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Atlanta is in the mid-30s to start the day, but with a slight breeze blowing from the west it feels more like it’s freezing outside. Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said coats, hats and gloves will be needed at bus stops Monday morning, but kids will be shedding those layers by lunchtime as temperatures reach the 50s.

Atlanta should hit its projected high of 56 degrees by early afternoon, she said. That’s two degrees above average for this time of year.

“We are going to see a few warm days before the cooler air returns,” Deon said. “Although we are starting off in the 20s and 30s this morning, over the next day or so we are going to get temperatures back on track , and even slightly warmer than what we would typically see around the Atlanta area.”

Deon said an area of low pressure will travel through South Georgia on Tuesday, bringing a slight 10% chance of rain to neighborhoods on the Southside. Ahead of that system, clouds will begin to increase Monday evening, contributing to a milder start Tuesday morning, she said.

Temperatures should be in the 40s when Atlanta wakes up Tuesday, according to Channel 2. Tuesday’s high is expected to beat Monday’s number by one, but Deon said the city should “enjoy the warmth while you can.”

“By the middle of the week, that’s when temperatures will start to cool down, and we’re going to see that cooling trend all the way through the weekend,” she said. “We’ll have some low 50s, and then highs not even getting out of the 40s.”

After highs in the mid- to upper 50s to begin the week, temperatures will drop as a cooling trend takes hold, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The weather may be looking up, but early crashes in Cobb County are complicating things for the start of the Monday morning commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

Authorities have blocked two right lanes of Barrett Parkway just north of Stilesboro Road while they respond to a crash in the northbound lanes. Delays are not severe, but commuters can use Kennesaw Due West Road to avoid the flashing lights, the Traffic Center reported.

Trouble continues on I-75 South, where a crash has a left lane closed at Delk Road. The Traffic Center is expecting “delays rolling out of Marietta.”

Delays are also expected near the Mall of Georgia in Gwinnett County after a rollover crash on Buford Drive. Lanes are closed near South Bogan Road and traffic lights are flashing red, according to the Traffic Center.
