It will be cold but sunny Monday as clouds move out and North Georgia settles into a dry weather pattern.

The forecast for the week looks mostly rain-free, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. There is a slight 20% chance of a sprinkle Thursday, but otherwise Monahan said dry air will keep the sunshine going.

“You’ve got the all-clear for getting outside the next three days,” he said Monday. “The weather looks great. After those raindrops we had to get around yesterday, we look good this afternoon, and tomorrow we’re mostly sunny. Wednesday should be a little bit warmer, into the lower 50s.”

Temperatures will generally stay near or below average this week, he said. After a cold start Monday in the upper 30s, numbers in Atlanta won’t move much. The projected high is 49 degrees, which is five degrees below what’s typical for this time of year.

With a slight breeze, Monahan said it feels more like 30 degrees outside on Monday morning, and temperatures continue to drop.

“We’ll all be in the 30s by the time the sun comes up,” he said. “Out the door, make sure you grab that warm coat.”

Clouds should clear the sky by midmorning, he said. Once the sun goes down this evening, Monahan said temperatures will crash quickly, into the 30s and eventually the upper 20s overnight. It will be cold but clear for any tailgating ahead of Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship game, which is scheduled for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

It’s much colder for Georgia and Alabama fans watching the game inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Temperatures there are only expected to reach 24 degrees Monday, and wind chills Monday night could be in the single digits, according to Channel 2.
