Those longing for a return to springlike weather won’t have to wait long with both highs in the 60s and showers in the forecast this week, according to Channel 2 Action News.
On Monday, however, it feels like winter. Most metro Atlanta neighborhoods are waking up to temperatures below freezing. The city will eventually leave the 30s and 40s behind for a projected high of 55 degrees Monday, but the real warmup comes later in the week, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
“Weather will be getting warmer as the week goes on,” he said. “For the first time in really a couple of weeks, we’re going to see a good shot of rain come through North Georgia.”
Monday won’t necessarily be warm, he said, but there will be plenty of sunshine for those with Valentine’s Day plans. The region will enjoy total sunshine Monday and Tuesday, and a few more clouds will build in Wednesday ahead of a cold front, according to Channel 2.
By Wednesday, Atlanta is expected reach the mid-60s for highs. Thursday’s projected high is 69 degrees, but the warmth will come at a price.
“The difference Thursday is the clouds returning,” Monahan said. “There’s going to be some rain around by Thursday afternoon, and even some heavy rain moving in.”
There is also a possibility of strong storms Thursday evening into Friday morning as a strong cold front rolls across North Georgia, he said. Behind it, cooler weather will return to finish the week. Friday’s projected high is just 50 degrees, according to Channel 2.

Atlanta traffic doesn’t usually inspire warm and fuzzy feelings, but interstates are moving smoothly at the start of Monday morning drive, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. With no crashes or major delays, traffic reporter Mike Shields said “you’re going to love the conditions through the heart of the city.”
The Downtown Connector is delay-free in both directions, Shields said at 6:30 a.m. Conditions are also looking good headed to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, where wait times at security checkpoints were below 15 minutes before sunrise.
