North Georgia will trade winter for early fall weather when temperatures make a 30-degree jump Monday afternoon.

It is cold Monday morning with 30s outside the Perimeter and a low of 47 degrees in town, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. A mostly clear sky in the forecast will allow those numbers to climb quickly, he said.

“With all this sunshine we’re quickly going to warm through the 40s, 50s, 60s and in many spots finish off in the low 70s later today,” Monahan said. Atlanta’s projected high is 73 degrees, which he said is “pretty nice in November.”

Monahan expects more of the same Tuesday and Wednesday before rain returns to the forecast Thursday. Both days should see lows in the 40s and afternoon highs in the mid-70s, which is about five degrees above average for this time of year.

“A high pressure area (is) keeping us nice and dry,” he said. “It’s going to keep us basically cloud-free through today, through Tuesday, maybe we slip a few clouds in here on Wednesday, but it will be Thursday our next weather system comes in bringing some rain.”

The clear sky will not only allow temperatures to rise quickly during the day, it will allow them to fall quickly overnight.

“That is going to be our pattern all week,” Monahan said. “Cold mornings, you dress for winter in the morning, but kind of feels like an early fall day by the afternoon.”

The projected high Monday is 73 degrees, according to Channel 2 Action News.
