There should be no weather issues for the ride into work Monday morning, but metro Atlanta will have a good chance of showers and storms during the evening commute.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan expects the rain to reach the city by 4 or 5 p.m., just in time for motorists to hit the roads and head home. Heavy rain, gusty wind and frequent lightning are possible, he said.
Up through about lunchtime, it should stay pretty dry, according to Monahan.
“If you’ve got things you’ve got to get done outside — number one to beat the heat, but number two also to beat the rain — do it through the first half of the day,” he said. “We’re going to have sunshine and it’s going to be a pretty nice start to the day.”
According to Monahan, the rain chance is sitting at zero early this morning as temperatures start in the 70s. Showers and storms are 20% likely at midday, and that chance increases to about 40% by mid- to late afternoon for those north of I-20. South of Atlanta should stay a little drier Monday, Monahan said.
“Southside, you will see some rain, just not as much,” he said. “From the city and down toward Upson County, LaGrange over toward Griffin, the rain chance is at about 30%.”
Those areas will also heat up a little better this afternoon, he said. Atlanta’s projected high is 90 degrees, but those to the south and east could see highs in the mid-90s.
Monahan is expecting a little better chance of rain on the Southside for Tuesday, with overall rain chances sitting at about 60%, and more isolated storms Wednesday. There is a chance of isolated to scattered storms each day through the end of this week, according to the latest forecast.
Monahan said it should be a mix of sunshine, heat, humidity and rain each day, with morning lows in the 70s and afternoon highs right around 90 degrees.
