After a dry and comfortable start to Monday across North Georgia, rain returns to the forecast this afternoon.
The region will have to get accustomed to the wet weather this week, because there’s a possibility of showers and storms daily. Monday’s rain chance is a moderate 40%, and it should be confined to the hours after lunch and before sunset, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.
“A different story compared to what we saw over the weekend with that beautiful weather,” Monahan said. “Still OK today, just more storms around by the afternoon. Most of our week is going to have at least some chance of rain.”
Wednesday should be the wettest day this week with a 60% chance of rain and storms, he said. For the rest of the week, rain looks to be more scattered.
Metro Atlanta is kicking off Monday in the mid-60s, and Monahan said temperatures will be slow to rise. He expects the city to reach the mid-70s by 10 a.m. and climb into the 80s around lunchtime. The projected high for Atlanta on Monday is 86 degrees, which is about average for this time of year.
“By 1 p.m., west of Atlanta, we will start to see those storms and showers pop up,” Monahan said. “They will gradually drift to the east. By 5 p.m., pretty much everybody around metro Atlanta will have a chance for a shower or storm.”
The rain chance should diminish heading into sunset at 8:46 p.m., he said.
If you don’t like the weather at any point this week, just wait an hour or two for it to change. Typical of a Georgia summer, there is sunshine, heat, humidity, and storms in the forecast each day, Monahan said.
“We’re staying in the 80s most of the week,” he said. “By the weekend, Sunday should be your nicer day.”
